Energy Performance Certificates | Display Energy Certificates

Energy Certificates appropriate the energy performance of buildings. There are two types, Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) and Display Energy Certificates (DEC).

EPCs cover dwelling and commercial buildings whilst DECs apply to Government buildings and public service buildings (except Scotland where EPCs cover both commercial and public buildings).

Certificates rate a buildings energy efficiency on an A to G scale and detail the Co2 emitted from the building.

The certificate is accompanied by an advisory report which details cost effective measures which if adopted will improve the buildings performance.

Energy Performance Certificate

Certificates are completed by a Government accredited energy assessor and lodged on a central register.

Who Needs Certificates:
Land lords and owners of all commercial building obtain an EPC prior to marketing the building for date or rent.

Newly Constructed Building
Buildings providing a public service (over 1000M2) floor space must obtain a DEC. This would normally be schools, universities, town halls etc.

EPCs and DECs are required by law from 1st October 2009 in England and Wales and from the 4th January in Scotland.
