Did your organisation use over 6,000 MWh of electricity in 2008 from Half hourly supplies?
Does your organisation use electricity through Half Hourly supplies?
If you have answered YES to the above questions, have you registered yet for the CRC scheme run by DECC “Department of Energy and Climate Change” and administrated by the Environment Agency?
The CRC “Energy Efficiency Scheme” is a piece of government legislation to incentivise the improvement of energy efficiency in large public and private sector organisations. It is a mandatory scheme that has been introduced to improve energy efficiency and reduce the amount of CO2 emitted in the UK.
This legislation has been introduced to help achieve the target of the reduction of the level of CO2 emitted by at least 60% by 2050 compared to the baseline figure in 1990 under the Kyoto protocol agreement.
CRC is an emissions trading scheme for the non-energy intensive sector which are not already covered by the EUETS “European Union Emissions Trading Scheme” or CCA’s “Climate Change Agreements”. Full participants of the scheme will have to purchase carbon allowances at the fixed price of £12 per tonnes of carbon emitted within the 3 year introductory phase. After the introductory phase, a cap will be tightened on the amount of carbon allowances available for purchase compared to the unlimited amount available over the 3 year introductory phase. Which will encourage organisations to concentrate on energy efficiency and emission reduction policies for future compliance.
A publicised league table will be produced showing an organisations performance within the scheme and will also determine the amount an organisation will receive from the “recycling” payments which is the revenue raised from all the sale of allowances. So in theory, the more energy efficient your organisation is and the less CO2 you are emitting, financially better off your organisation will benefit from this scheme.
At Eco Elite we are looking to provide guidance and a full compliance service for this scheme such as:
